Welcome to the Sunset Duckies Cup! ๐ฆ๐
๐ First competition we've ever run
This is the first comp the club has ever organised โ bear with us if the running order wobbles a little. The waves call the shots, not the schedule. Be patient, be loud for every kid, and we'll all have a great afternoon.
๐งญ Where to find things
On the tables โ help yourselves any time. The BBQ is going all afternoon: sausages, baguettes, fruit. Drink water, it's a long day in the sun.
Pinned at the registration desk and on the heat board. If you're not sure when your kid is up โ check the board first, then ask a helper.
Anyone in a Sunset Duckies shirt is a helper. Lost? Confused? Need a leash, a snack, a band-aid? Stop one and ask.
First-aid kit is at the registration desk and a trained adult is on site all afternoon. Grazes, jellyfish, wax-in-eye โ find a helper immediately.
๐ฉ Water safety โ listen carefully
These rules exist so no one gets hurt. They're not negotiable โ if a helper or the head judge calls you back, come back, no arguments.
โฑ๏ธ How a heat runs
We'll call every step from the beach with the mic โ you don't have to remember the clock, just listen.
Heats are 10 minutes. When time's up, finish the wave you're on if you're already riding it โ then paddle straight in. Don't start a new wave after the horn.
๐ Judging โ only your TOP 2 waves count
Catch as many waves as you want โ but at the end of the heat only your best 2 waves go toward your score. That means it's better to commit hard to a few good ones than to flap on every ripple. Pick your wave, paddle with everything, stand tall.
Each wave is scored on 5 simple things โ the judge ticks a box for each one you nail. Max 5 ticks per wave, max 10 across your best 2.
๐ฃ One last thing โ cheer for EVERYONE
Parents, friends, fellow ducklings โ cheer for every kid, not just yours. The kid who falls hardest gets the loudest cheer. The kid who's scared and paddles out anyway is a hero. That's the Duckies way.
