The field is 26 surfers — 15 ducklings + 11 ducks, plus 1 cheerleader (cheer division, not surfing). That's 2 qualifying heats per division, then a 10-surfer Final (2♂ + 2♀ ducklings + 3♂ + 3♀ ducks), and the parent heat to close. If surf or daylight is short, split the Final into a Duckling Final (4) and a Duck Final (6) — same crowns, two sessions. Heats of 5–8, 10 minutes, best 2 waves. Surfers are pre-drawn below — siblings split, ages kept even.

Running the draw:
- Seeding: siblings are already split across heats and ages kept even — check it still holds if anyone scratches or swaps division.
- 10 finalists — 4 ducklings + 6 ducks, balanced by gender:
- Ducklings (4 advance): top boy + top girl from each Duckling heat. Fallback: if a heat is short one gender, advance the next-best so both crowns stay fillable.
- Ducks (6 advance): top boy + top girl from each Duck heat = 4, plus 1 ♂ + 1 ♀ wildcard chosen by the head judge across both heats.
- The head judge marks the advancing surfers on the scorecards at the end of each qualifier.
- One final or two: run all 10 together if surf and time allow; otherwise run Duckling Final first, then Duck Final. Same crowns either way.
- Crowns: top duckling ♂ + ♀ = Duckling King & Queen; top duck ♂ + ♀ = Duck King & Queen.
- If surf is too big: drop to Duckling-only and shorten heats — same draw, fewer rounds.
- One card per heat × judge — pair this sheet with the judge scorecards (3 judges + 1 instructing).
